SC-1

Overview

The SC-1, recently used to win both the Moth Worlds and the Melges 24 North Americans, is for hard-core racers who are looking for an edge on the competition.  Whether it is providing accurate VMG feedback to help you get the most out of your boat or helping you get a jump on the fleet with sag-busting distance to line measurements, the SC-1 gives you the instantaneous feedback you need to win.

When you buy an SC-1 it comes out of the box as an idiot-proof Compass and Speedometer. If you want more functionality, you can download and install our free Control Center Windows application. Control Center allows you to enable the SC-1's advanced modes and download GPS data from your SC-1.

With SpeedPlay (sold separately) you can easily download GPS data from a group of SC-1s and launch virtual video replays of your races and training sessions, overlaid on a Microsoft Virtual Earth map background.

Software

There are two software packages, Control Center and SpeedPlay, available from Velocitek which allow you to download GPS data, customize device functionality and update firmware. Control Center is the basic free software which lets you customize your SC-1 and download single-boat tracks. SpeedPlay is a more powerful tool which lets you download and replay GPS data from up to 21 Velocitek devices at a time.

SC-1 Modes

Any two modes can be displayed simultaneously.

Speedometer

• Maximum speed recall
• Best 10 second average speed recall

Compass

• Adjustable damping
• Super-accurate GPS compass shows the direction you are actually moving in rather than where your bow is pointed - great for sailing in current
• GPS compass will give accurate readings with the device mounted in any orientation
• Programmable artificial declination for direct comparison with a magnetic compass

Start Line Proximity

• Indicates distance to start line in meters or boat lengths

VMG

• Calculates and displays upwind and downwind VMG in real-time based on a user-programmed wind direction
• Responding to wind shifts in Tactical Compass mode automatically adjusts the wind direction used to calculate VMG

Timer

• 1-9 minute countdown sequences available
• Sync. button
• Loud audible signal

Tactical Compass

• Displays your heading relative to the wind direction
• Makes wind shifts easy to identify
• Display shows the same number at equivalent angles on either tack
